Our culture today often views work as at best a means to getting wealth and power, but more generally as inhuman burden. The vision of Scripture and the Church could not be more different. As expressed by St. John Paul II, work is essential to human dignity and man’s dominion over God’s creation. Even more profoundly, when we embrace our daily crosses and tasks with love, then work actually becomes a means of conforming ourselves to the Paschal Mystery of Christ.
